Doing the baking thing

I’m rediscovering my inner baker. Mother would be proud (hey Ma).
These Vanilla Buttercream Cupcakes were whipped up (and fast consumed) last week:

After a hard day in the garden trimming a Triffid-like ivy hedge, I gathered juuuust enough strength to whip up some afghans and pikelets. Can anyone say mmmm?
Afghans, stage 1 – from the Edmonds [...]

Mad Hailstorm!

Yesterday evening I had just gotten home from an excellent colour mixing workshop when the skies opened and crashed ice and torrential rain all over the ground. Repeatedly and at length. The cat thought the world was ending, but I had her trapped inside as she trembled and yowled at all the racket. It was [...]

Getting there…

In the past 3 weeks, lots of progress has been made on the bathroom. The plastering was finished (that took a week), then I spent two days slapping on paint to the upper half of the walls (the lower half will be tiled).
I have to say that I seriously hatehatehate painting. There is nothing duller [...]

Bathroom progress

There is progress in the bathroom! The gib is all on, bath installed, first coat of plaster went on on Friday, second coat this morning. Yesterday, friends helped me take all the building waste to the tip… it’s good to see the grass again.
I tried to be a good greenie and get the metal waste [...]

New Loo!

I have a new loo! It is a rather flash loo, even though it was half the price of every other model on the market. Be that as it may, I am not afraid. Said loo works, and that’s good enough for me.
I’m not cheap, I’m a smart shopper.

Bathroom Renovations

I have ripped out my bathroom.
Well, not me — my builder. Cleverly, I neglected to take ‘before’ photos, so all anyone is ever going to see of my once-horrendous bathroom is this:

You’re looking at where the old bath and its hideous sliding doors were. The wooden surround on the bath was rotten and moulding and [...]

I painted something!

After last week’s disastrous DIY non-effort, I redoubled my efforts and slapped a coat of paint on the front entrance. At long last. From a gungy, moldy, 70s puke-yellow, to a nice fresh white. Still need to get another coat on, so hopefully the fine weather will stick around until tomorrow.

Cripes, haven’t updated here since February. But this doesn’t mean to say I’ve been idle. Oh no – far from it! I have been working away on my first attempt at laceweight singles (not quite there yet, but getting closer)…

…have finished my FIRST EVER pair of hand-knitted socks (which rock, if I do say so [...]

A very happy (fibre) birthday

I celebrated my mumble mumble birthday today with friends – fibre friends. We went to Black Salt Bar in New Lynn – a styley new neighbourhood bar and restaurant. Food’s great, so are the drinks.
It was actually a Knit Rangers ‘Irregular Winos’ night, and my birthday happened to coincide, so it was a double-happy of [...]
